A well worn powerplant on the de Havilland Mosquito, a British aircraft that served a wide variety of roles during World War II. Powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin V12s, these aircraft were originally designed to be quick and light bombers capable of a max airspeed of 361 knots, or 415 miles per hour, at altitude. The speedy Mosquito would go on to participate in marking targets for Operation Chastise, also known as the Dambuster Raids, in which Allied Lancaster bombers targeted German dams to hamper supply of water to factories and troops across the country. Only two of the remaining Mosquitos are airworthy.
